While watching the first season of Hanna, I heard the quote:
“Work with what you have, not with what you hope”
I really liked it and immediately jotted it down to post. In reference to the show, they were going into a fight and had to face reality to use what they had to defend themselves and not wish they had bigger guns or other weapons. Just hoping in that moment wouldn’t do anything to help them, assess what you have, work with it today!
I did some research to see if it was a famous quote, but didn’t find it exactly.
I did find a very similar quote from Donald Rumsfeld.
You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.
Donald Rumsfeld
When I think about what these quotes mean to me, it’s about facing reality and what is right in front of you.
So many times we look at what we have and wish for more, different, or that things weren’t as they are.
The reality is we always have:
-> Exactly what we allow
-> Exactly what we have created
-> Exactly what we accept
Face it, own it, it’s yours. Don’t just hope for something else.
If you want something different, then change it, don’t just hope for it.

This is a sentiment that I want to instill in our kids. Love it!
